Namibian President Hage Geingob has dismissed Presidential Affairs Minister James Hengari amid explosive allegations that he attempted to bribe a rape victim to remain silent and not pursue charges.

The decision, announced by the Office of the Presidency, comes in response to mounting public outcry and calls for accountability following media reports and preliminary investigations into the alleged misconduct. The president stated that the dismissal underscores his administration’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption and abuse of power.

“This government will not condone criminal behavior or any action that undermines the rule of law and public trust,” the statement read.

While formal charges have not yet been filed, the scandal has sent shockwaves through Namibia’s political circles, with opposition parties and civil society organizations demanding a full investigation and legal proceedings.

President Geingob’s swift action is being viewed as a move to preserve public confidence and reinforce ethical standards within his government, especially ahead of upcoming elections.

The Presidency has yet to announce a replacement for Hengari.
